Creating your marketing plan in 7-steps may sound near impossible but, I promise you it is not.
When you are getting started with your business, the idea of writing a marketing plan can be overwhelming.
Much like myself, you may have been looking for marketing templates but many seem like you need an advanced degree just to get started. You know you need a market plan.
You realize that it can assist your business with remaining focused for the end goal.
But, you’re probably reading this for any one or more of the following reasons…
- You need help to get started with your marketing business plan;
- You want an easy marketing plan… a marketing strategy template;
- You want direct steps to creating a marketing plan that won’t take a lot of time
Everyday, I have so many things to do as an entrepreneur that I love anything that can get me what I need and keep it simple.
More importantly, I need it to be so easy to understand that you can pass it along to anyone on your team where they can take it and run.
I want the same for you.
Here’s how you can write your marketing plan in 7 steps.
STEP 1: Identify Your Target Market.
Knowing your audience demographics is going to be the most critical information you will need to have a chance of getting this right.
Do as much research as possible to fully understand who you are trying to reach.
STEP 2: Establish Your Goals.
The biggest thing you need to remember when creating a goal is to make it a reasonable stretch from your current goals.
It should not be too big nor too small. It must be achievable and realistic.
Create two goals that are S.M.A.R.T.
This is an acronym to help you remember that goals should always be…
Specific. Be clear about what you want to track.
Measureable. Set your standards for measurement.
Attainable. Make goals that you can actually reach.
Realistic. Don’t set your goals for time frames or outcomes that are impossible given all things being what they truly are.
Timely. Again, be mindful of the time it would take to achieve and measure your goal for it to be completed.
STEP 3: Create Your Strategy.
The easiest way to create strategy is to look at everything from the perspective of your ideal target customer.
Ask yourself, things like…
Where would [they] look for this information?
What phrases would [they] use in searching for your product or service?
What benefits would [they] expect from your product or service?
STEP 4: Identify Your Strengths.
Identify Your Strengths
Simple and straight-forward. What sets you apart from your competitors.
STEP 5: Develop Your Budget.
What does it cost to pull this off?
How much do you expect to make back?
How much do you need to charge to earn your projected revenue goal?
STEP 6: Know Your Competitors.
Who is in your lane? Be honest! How much better or worse are [they] than you.
STEP 7: Identify Your Weaknesses.
Now, this is where you have to be brutally honest and clear about yourself.
What are the areas in your product or service offering that you could do better?
Areas that need improvement?
What areas are your competitors doing better than you or have that you do not?
Prepare for the worst and expect the best by getting crystal clear about what are weak points.
Your clients will appreciate your transparency.
After reading this and using these steps, you will be able to create an easy marketing plan that is simple to follow and share.
